PORT HARCOURT— COMPLIANCE with the warning strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, was partial in Rivers State as some banks opened for business.

Government workers however stayed away from their places of work. Petrol stations and operators of private businesses in the state went about their activities.

A few of the banks at about 2pm started shutting their doors to customers on account of the strike. Passengers were not stranded as taxi and bus drivers were on ground. Nevertheless, Vanguard gathered that some taxi drivers also kept away from the road.

Private schools opened for business. Some students of the private institutions that spoke to the Vanguard said they were not aware of a strike order.

Traffic on major roads was busy as usual.
