Eagles depart for Tehran Monday

By Fidelis Ebu

Home-based players in the Super Eagles have been scheduled to depart for Iran Monday, and would be joined by their foreign_based counterparts in Tehran same day.

According to the Acting Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, Musa Amadu, once they arrive Tehran, the team would not have time for elaborate preparation before the encounter. In a chat with Sports Vanguard in his office, Amadu disclosed this much, “They would have just one training session before the match” Amadu added.

He further disclosed that Samson Siasia, the newly appointed Chief Coach of the Super Eagles would be in Tehran, Iran for the international friendly with the Iranian national team as an observer.

We gathered that the Nigeria Football Federation decided to include Siasia on the trip for him to have his first one_on_one contact with the players, especially the foreign based.

Acting NFF scribe confirmed this, “he (Samson Siasia) is not resuming until December 1, 2010. It is natural that he gets acquainted with the players he would work with when he resumes, and the international friendly in Iran would provide the opportunity”, Musa Amadu said.

The Super Eagles’ new boss has however expressed that the team would surpass their previous marks in both Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup finals.

Shortly before he was announced the new Super Eagles’ Chief Coach, Siasia had stated that he would focus on the domestic league players while the foreign based players would still provide the experience and professional edge in the team.
