BENIN—MAJOR industrial crisis is brewing in Edo State, as the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in the state, weekend, frowned at what it described as the “seeming nonchalant attitude” of the state government in finding solutions to the series of industrial unrests in the educational and health sectors, despite the intervention of the congress and civil society organisations.

NLC has consequently, issued a 14-day ultimatum to the state government to urgently settle all the issues that gave rise to the present industrial unrest in these sectors, failing which the congress would not guarantee industrial peace in the state. NLC in a statement by its state chairman, Mr Kaduna Eboigbe and Secretary, Bashiru Kadiri, also frowned at the non-implementation of the Consolidated Public Service Salary structure, CONPSS, in the state and urged the state government to urgently conclude all issues relating to the matter with the state Joint Negotiating Council (Trade Union Side). “SEC also noted the growing rate of casualization in the various sectors of the public service in Edo State and calls on the state government to urgently regularize the appointment of these categories of workers,” it said.

NLC, however, commended the state government in the areas of infrastructural development and “genuine efforts of paying back log of pensions and gratuities to retirees of Edo State, the provision of new buses for mass transit, among others.”…As NLC issues 14-day ultimatum to state govt
