In a laudable effort to enhance learning and promote health-friendly education in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, a corps member, Mr. Chibueze Uchegbu, has spearheaded the supply of modern white marker boards to all public secondary schools in the area.

The project, executed under the auspices of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Education Development Group (EDG) led by Uchegbu, was carried out in collaboration with a team of dedicated corps members including Victor Adiri, Nobert Nwagwara, Princess, Faith Guru, Emmanuel, Richard, Mercy, Kennedy Kamalu, and Queeneth.

Speaking during the official launch of the project, Uchegbu, who serves as the President of EDG, said the initiative was borne out of a desire to create a healthier and more conducive learning environment for students.

According to him, *“True learning thrives in an environment where safety and health are prioritized. When students feel secure and well, their minds are free to focus on growth, exploration, and success.”*

He noted that during his service year in Abiriba — fondly called “Small London” — he observed that the use of chalkboards in local schools posed health risks to both students and teachers due to dust and chalk particles. This observation inspired him and his colleagues to introduce white marker boards as a safer and more effective alternative.

The three schools that benefited from the project are **Egwuena Girls Secondary School, Enuda High School, and Onarubi Secondary School*. The gesture, according to the NYSC, is expected to impact over *800 students and 30 teachers*, improving the quality of teaching and learning in the community.

The *NYSC*, which was established to foster national unity and development, commended the initiative, describing it as a reflection of the scheme’s core objective — encouraging corps members to identify and solve local challenges through meaningful projects.

Community members and school authorities expressed appreciation for the project, noting that the whiteboards have transformed the classroom experience.

The project stands as a testament to the positive impact of youth service and an inspiring example of how young Nigerians can contribute meaningfully to national development through innovative, community-driven action.
