UGHELLI—DELTA State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, said the resignation of Senator Adego Eferakeya and Chief Ovie Omo-Agege, constituted no setback to the party, describing their resignation as a welcome development.
Meanwhile state Chairman of the PDP, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, has described the exit of Chief Omo-Agege from the party as “good riddance.”
PDP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Newworl Safugha, said their (Eferakeya and Omo-Agegere) signations were democratic.
“The question of legitimacy of the State Executive Committee, SEC, of the party is before a court of competent jurisdiction. Therefore, one would not comment on it but their claim of dumping PDP on grounds of godfatherism, lack of internal democracy and the delivery of democratic dividends to our teeming masses is not sound, but myopic reasons.
“It is a well known fact in Delta State that the duo are major beneficiaries of the party cum godfatherism. The only offence the state exco of the party has committed was repeatedly saying that no more automatic ticket for any aspirant.
“The party wish to reassure all our members and Deltans that the present leadership of the party under Chief Nwaoboshi remains focused on its mission, ditto, to among other things, reposition the party, which we have done, to build an ultra modern party secretariat, now in advance stage and win all elections in 2011 polls,” he added.
On his part, a member of the Delta State House of Assembly and one of the key figures in the Uduaghan Campaign Organisation for 2011 re-election, Mr. Funkekeme Solomon, who spoke to Vanguard, on Omo-Agege resignation, said “it is a good riddance to bad rubbish. He added no value while he was in the PDP.”
He has a history of being ungrateful to his benefactors in particular, Chief James Ibori who made him but whom he has now dumped. We wish him good luck.”
