Communities warn against distracting DESOPADEC Board

PORT HARCOURT—A group, Delta State Ijaw Oil and Gas Producing Communities, has described recent call for probe of  the activities of the newly constituted Interim Management Committee of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, as a distraction.

The group in a statement by its   Chairman and acting secretary, Mr Tangbowei and Samson Amajene  said the call was politically motivated. Noting that the new body should be allowed to settle down to discharge its responsibilities, the group accused those behind the call as a faceless group.

The group said, those behind the call were merely seeking board appointments and contracts, adding “they are political jobbers,  seeking board appointments, irregular contract awards and other crooked benefits and  in their extreme impatience, have resorted to brazen smear campaigns to harass the commission.”
