SOKOTO-The Sokoto State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service says it has adopted a community approach in the combat of smugglers in the area.
The Area Comptroller, Alhaji Abdulkarim Husaini told newsmen in Sokoto that the approach would enable the communities assist the command with useful information on movement ofsmugglers. Besides, Husaini said that more men and officers had been posted to the border areas to track the smugglers.
He, however, appealed for more patrol vans and logistics to effectively patrol the border areas. He urged smugglers to bring in their goods through the appropriate channel instead of sabotaging the nation”s economy. Husaini called on members of the public to pay their duties as money realised from such duties would be channeled by the Federal Government into the provision of basic amenities.Reports say that the command also oversees customs formations in Kebbi and Zamfara states.
