Mother of Rivers State’s Commissioner for Power murdered

By Jimitota Onoyume
PORT HARCOURT— The  67 years old mother of Rivers State, Commissioner for Power, Madam Lucy Wokocha, was, Wednesday, murdered in Okposi community of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Dr. Rita Inoma- Abbey, who confirmed the sad development to Vanguard, could not say if it was politically motivated.

Vanguard gathered from community sources that the deceased was shot dead at about 3a.m. by some assailants who accessed her room through the ceiling. The sources said the assailants broke into the room through the ceiling and shot her several times at very close range.

They said appeals by the old woman for the assailants to spare her life fell on deaf ears. The state PPRO said no arrest had been made, adding that the Police was on top of the situation to track down the murderers.

Meanwhile, in Port Harcourt people were seen discussing the sad incident in groups. They expressed fears that the killing could be motivated by the politics of 2011.

It is, however, not known if the Commissioner, Mr Onyekachi Wokocha, is gunning for any position in next year’s election.
