Jeff Owarigbo walked out of the IBB Golf and Country Club head and shoulder above every other players after beating Matthew Ojua in straight sets, 6/4, 6/2 in the men’s singles final of the tournament put in place to mark the country’s golden jubilee celebration.

The victory may have earned Owarigbo who paired Joe Nwafonso against the combination of Garry Eneh and Tony Areh in the men’s doubles final, a spot in the club’s team tournament tour of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club next month.

“I will work hard in my training to earn a place in the team that would be in Lagos next month against the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club in the Inter_Club Tournament”, Jeff Owarigbo said while cuddling his trophy.

Ossi Aguguo, the captain of Tennis section of the club said a reputable coach had been contracted to brush up the players for the Lagos tour.

“We have good players that would make us proud against the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club. We’ve been playing against players from the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, but this time we want to dominate the Lagos team”, Ossi Aguguo said.

He stated that adequate preparations had been put in place for the players as he pointed out that the Captain’s Cup was the first tournament to put the players in a competitive mood before the silver jubilee tournament.
