The fun amongst football lovers led me into this business , Terren

By Daniel Alfred
If there is one thing so many see today as a means of relaxation, it is football and it has actually turned out to be the easiest means of uniting people from different locality, region and even country as the case may be.

Terren

It is on this  verge of getting people united that Terrence Agan, a Benue state indigene who presently resides in Jabbi area of Abuja, decided to set up a football viewing center so as to enable him keep football lovers happy and also to raise money for his academics.

Speaking on what aroused his insight in putting up the business, he said “ I saw some one who established it and found out that he makes a lot of returns from the business and comparing it to the kind of suffering I got while working and being that I haven’t gotten any certification to work in comfortable office where I can earn good money, I decided to raise some money so I can be using it to help and fund my education.”

Terrence who presently school at the university of Abuja on part time bases states his basic challenge as lack of finance.
“One of the challenges is finance. How to raise the adequate capital was a big deal but I thank God for my friend who I am partnering with right now. He brought some amount of money and I brought mine and we where able to put up this little place. Another challenges we experienced was awareness. It has not been easy convincing people to come to this area because we have about three already in this area.”
The income rate has not been too steady in the sense that the business is on the long run, despite it challenges.”

“The problem  is that we don’t really have matches every day, it is only on weekends and most times Tuesdays and Wednesdays for Champions league. So the more the people turn out to watch football, the more money we realise. The good thing is that so many who have DSTV in there houses don’t enjoy watching football with it alone, rather they enjoy viewing with fellow fans. Therefore, they come here pay the fee of fifty naira and enjoy the football.”

“In cases where we have different matches to watch on the same day, then we know that something is there for us because we are going to be raising some reasonable amount of money. The truth is that this business is on the long run basses. You might not see your income immediately but as time goes on, things begins to change because as long as they keep playing football and people keeps falling in love with sports, there is definitely going to be a good turn up, which is the reason you see people setting up this business on daily bases.”

Despite the fact that viewing centres breeds money, the amount of money involved in setting up such business especially in areas in Abuja is quite cumbersome, he said.

“The business was quite expensive, trying to set it up because of the area where we are. It is about three hundred thousand Naira. Land acquisition and purchase of all the necessary materials, the Dish, the Television and the Decoder and the running cost like the transport.”

“Like I said the business is in a long run and we are just using the little one we have to set up the business and give balance. If I see anything that can generate more income than this, I will venture into it but for now, I think this is the best bet for me right not.”Luring people to his place, he added that he is involved with one on one advertisement.

“In order to lure people to my place, I do one on one advertisement. That is, I advertise through people and most times I give discount to my customers and encourage free watch on a particular match and I encourage them to bring more people when they are coming the next time.”

“I started this business fully this season and the season started early this year. Right now football is one of the avenues to unite people, I see this great happiness among people from different parts of the locality and from different background speaking in one voice all for the sake of football and that makes me happy a great deal.

At least if not for anything, the happiness people derive from it is one thing that should make me continue. We are fans and we know ourselves, they might be the one to help me tomorrow and I might be the one to help, you never can tell.”

He also noted that very soon he will begin to air Hausa movies knowing too well how well the Hausa’s loves watching there movies. Really everything in life is lucrative depending on how you decide to start and the vision behind it. “I believe so much that by the time I am through, the sky will not only be my limit but my starting point.” he said.
