Blackout looms in Warri as PHCN workers begin strike

By Neville Amorighoye

Workers of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in Warri and Effurun will, from tomorrow, go on strike to press home their demand for payment of monetization arrears from July 2003- March 2009.

The Zonal Organising Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, Benin Zone

Comrade Joseph Ndem, said, at the weekend, that the claim that 82.6 percent of PHCN workers has been paid is wrong.

“Nationwide, only about 10 per cent of PHCN workers have been paid and it was done arbitrarily. In Benin Zone, comprising about 17 districts, nobody has been paid a kobo by the Federal Government as monetization arrears.
