ABUJA—A victim of Shiite protest, Mr. Sunday Attah, yesterday, dragged the Federal Government to court, seeking an order proscribing the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, as a terrorist organisation.

The plaintiff, in an ex-parte motion filed through his lawyer, Chief Amobi Nzelu, also prayed the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court for an order of mandamus to compel the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to recognise the Shiite sect as a terrorist group.

In a supporting affidavit attached to the suit marked FHC /ABJ/930/2018, the plaintiff, told the court that he was sometimes in April 2018, attacked and wounded by protesting members of the sect while he was returning from a journey .

According to him, the Shiite group has constituted itself into a body that willfully disobeys the law, assault non-members and cause nuisance to other road users.

To support his claim, the plaintiff presented video tapes of clashes between the group and security agencies in and outside Abuja, as well as the certified copies of white paper report issued by the Kaduna State government.

He maintained that the sect had yet to challenge the said white paper in any court.
