AVM Terry Okorodudu
A retired Air Vice Marshal and leading aspirant for Delta South senatorial seat, AVM Terry Omatsola Okorodudu has assured that he will deliver grassroot development when elected into the senate. He gave the assurance in a statement made available to the press through his media office today in Warri, Delta state.
Speaking on his goal for seeking senate position, he said his vision is captured under the broad agenda he describes as G.I.F.T, an acronym which means Grassroot Initiatives for Transformation. The statement reads in part “so much potentials abound in Delta South. It is a paradox of an unprecedented proportion that a region with such enormous wealth in treasures, natural and quality human resources has not had its fair share of development. There’s definitely a disconnect. The region can do much better. Human capital must be aligned with inherent natural resources to reposition Delta South”.
“It was against this backdrop that G.I.F.T was hatched. Its objective is to galvanize the youths, women of all age brackets, the men, the highly and modestly educated in Delta South senatorial district towards attitudinal transformation and mindset liberation, which is a right harbinger for economic prosperity and development. G.I.F.T movement is further meant to nurture and evolve leadership instincts in the youths”.
“G.I.F.T is more than a mere slogan that is bandied about for political gains. It is all-encompassing. It is a philosophy. G.I.F.T is a movement. G.I.F.T is a development agenda. It is about a paradigm shift from the old unproductive order to new ways of doing things. We must snatch back our region, our state, our country from the chokehold of those that have kept us in penury”, he said.
He expressed concern that the political stage is currently being polluted by individuals who have no character, competence or intentions to deliver good governance and quality service to the people, saying that the plot by some elements within the APC to offer senate ticket to a decamped former governor does not align well with the vision of the founding fathers of the APC or does it promote the purpose upon which the party rode to power, a promise of change and progressive leadership.
Going further, the statement reads “our party, the APC must not allow itself to become a bird nest of looters. Well-meaning Nigerians and indeed the world is worried by this development whereby individuals who do not merit our platform are allowed into our party platform and are allegedly promised automatic tickets. We call on the president, Muhammadu Buhari to urgently intervene. Nigerians should mobilize and say no to delegates, we must insist on direct primaries so that those who truly deserve party tickets will be able to get it, for the sake of this country and the future of our children”
