Sprinter Damola Osayomi who tested positive to stimulants and had her women 100m gold medal stripped by the Commonwealth Games Federation, has refused to take food and wouldn’t talk to any Nigerian official.
It was learnt that the often shy athlete locked herself in her room at the Games Village and for three days has not come out to eat.
“She is devastated by the turn of events. For days we have been trying to get her out of her mood but she wouldn’t talk to anyone,” said a top Nigerian official.
Former African sprint champion, Mary Onyali_Omagbemi according to the official, has been detailed to mind Osayomi. She will be leaving with Osayomi to Houston, Texas with a view to building confidence in the crest fallen athlete.
Osayomi’s B sample confirmed a positive dope test Tuesday night and she was stripped of the gold. she won it in a rather controversial manner after Australian Sally Persons was disqualified.
Commonwealth Games Federation chief Michael Fennell sympathized with Osayomi when he confirmed that the positive dope test could be related to use of supplements.
“The supplement industry is by and large an unregulated industry worldwide and it is an industry that is causing great concern not only for the fight against doping but also the protection of the athletes and outside of sports for the protection of people,” Fennell said.
