10 countries for WAGA tourney

Ten West African countries, including host country, Nigeria, will take part in the West African Golf Team Championship, scheduled to tee-off at the Royal Valley Golf Course Ogosun, Kwara State, from October 21th to 24th. The newly constructed all green 18-hole golf facility will see, Ivory Coast , Ghana, Benin Republic , Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Senegal and two other countries vie for the Pro-AM tournament.

Abushie Odihili, member of the Main Organizing Committee, revealed that six golfers from each country, with a minor,( to encourage the young golfers in West Africa sub-region), would take part in the four-day tournament.

Odihili, who is the Captain of the Royal Valley Golf Club, says, about 250 golfers are expected to take part in the competition.

“The players are expected to go through team play- four balls, three to score, special quest play and professional. The professional are 35, strictly invited for the tournament on merit.

He said State Governors, the new president of West African Golf Association, WAGA, retired Vice Admiral Ganiyu Tunde Adekeye, including array of naval staff and prominent Nigerian golfers, are expected to play as special guests.

“To add colour to the tournament, there are mowers and golf equipment, for home clubs to win ,and trophies as prizes to be won”, he concluded.
