UMUAHIA — A youth group, Ethnic Nationalities Youth Presidents of Nigeria, ENYPN, has cautioned the Presidency and National Assembly members against heating the polity over defection of Senate President, Dr. Olusola Saraki and Some Governors from the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, and warned them against truncating the nation’s democracy.
ENYPN warned against illegal impeachment of the Senate President, saying it could lead break down of law and order.
The group called on both arms of Government to have mutual respect for each other and work together for the development of the nation instead of heating up the polity over defection from one party to the other.
The group warned that if they continue the bickering which is affecting development, the ethnic youths would be forced to occupy both the Presidency and National Assembly if they allow the situation to degenerate to breakdown of law and order.
“Nigeria Youths will occupy both National Assembly and the Presidential Villa if there is and break down of law and order, emanating from any unlawful impeachment of Senate President.
“We are calling on the Acting President, Osibanjo to properly advise members of and the leadership of the ruling APC to respect the law in whatever they do.
“We have observed that some crucial issues of insecurity have been ignored over defections, like the attempt illegal impeachment of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State by only 8 law makers. This is illegal. The era of using few lawmakers to illegally impeach a sitting Governor has gone and any attempt to remove Governor Ortom will set Nigeria on fire.
“All Ethnic nationalities Youth Organizations would troupe en-mass to Benue to Protect Governor Ortom and people of Benue state if the illegality continues.
“We are calling on the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that his administration belongs to everybody and not any group as promised on the day of his swearing-in”, ENYPN said in a statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Deputy chairman.
