Nigerian football goes downhill

By John Egbokhan
The present state of football administration in the country, which compelled the Executive Committee of the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) to suspend the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), with immediate effect from its affairs, has thrown spanner into the works of development that the game is yearning for.

At a time that Nigerian youths are inching for better life, through the avenue that football provides to them, FIFA’s decision to slam the hammer on Nigeria, portend serious setbacks to the game’s players, followers and a lot of other persons, who have one thing or the other to do with the round leather game.

FIFA have become frustrated with events in the country and have now acted, meaning the country’s national team will not be able to participate in qualifying for the African Cup of Nations until the matter is resolved.

Nigeria won their opening ANC qualifier, 2-0 against Madagascar.
Also, the Flying Eagles would not be able to partake in the qualifying series of next year’s Africa Youth Championship

Moreover, the Super Falcons would not be able to feature in the African Women Championship holding this month in South Africa.

These latest setbacks have only just compounded the woes that have befallen the game, threatening to take it further downhill.
