BENIN—OWNERS of houses and residents of Anigboro Street and environs in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, have sent a Save Our Soul, SOS, to the council Chairman, Ms Eghe Ogbemudia to save them and their property from being washed away by flooding that has ravaged the area.

In the SOS by Messers F. I. Oviasogie,  Elder Roland Irorere,  Iro Omorodion and two others for the community, the residents lamented that many houses and property worth millions of naira in the area had been destroyed by the flood, which had turned  many landlords  into tenants.

They said: “Whenever it rains, people are trapped in their homes and cannot come out because of the flood and children cannot go to school, while market women cannot also go to market.

“For your information, the flood situation in our area is worsened by the construction of service lanes on both sides of the Uselu /Lagos Road, Benin City. As a result, the water from Adolor Street area, Ugbowo and Uwasota Road among others, coupled with the one from Evbareke empty into our area.

“The situation is terrible.  Chairman sir, we plead with you to come around and see things for yourself especially when it rains. Please, do something about it as well as help us reach out to both the state and federal governments to come to our aid.

“Chairman, except something is urgently done,  we and our property are at the verge of being washed away by the flood as a six years old school girl was recently washed away by flood near the Five Junctions along Uselu /Benin because of failure to cover the gutters.

“We live in the same axis where the tragedy occurred hence our apprehension that something should be done urgently about our plight to avert similar situation as that of the poor little girl.”
