500 drug addicts rescued in Plateau

os—In the last three years, 500 drug addicts have been taken off the streets of Plateau State, treated, rehabilitated and reintegrate into the society, an expert in the treatment of addicts, Dr. Mayowa Okonoda, disclosed.

Okonoda said his Centre for Addiction Management and Psychological Medicine has, in the last three years, been able to take some addicts off the streets, and help them overcome addiction with most of them now contributing meaningfully in the society.

Another organisation, Institute for Governance and Social Research, IGSR, also expressed worry over the menace, advocating effective and efficient involvement of youths in sports.

IGSR’s Project Manager, Mr. Celestine Ukatu, who addressed the youths, said: “Sport can mould character.”
