SOME oil producing communities in Oil Mining and License, OML 40 in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State have given five days ultimatum to Etland Oil and Gas Plc, Elcrest Exploration and Production Limited and the operators of Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NDPC, to recognised them as host communities or vacate their land.

The communities which include Asisabubotie, Ubebrakui, Agbinwagha, Okofagbene, Erekongha and Ojudoigbene communities of Gbetiokun I and II, OML 40 along the Benin River of Warri North, said that they had written series of letters without reasonable response from the companies.

A letter addressed to the companies by chairmen of the communities, Roland Kiri, Chairman, Asisabubotie; Dennis Okoro, Chairman Ubebrakui; People Sanki, Chairman, Agbinwagha; Bewo Tebedoh, Chairman,Okofagbene; John Osifo, Chairman, Erekongha; IK Saturday, Chairman, Ojudoigbene, they lamented that several meetings had been held between representatives of the companies, their contractors and host communities in the office of the Commanding Officer, JTF Koko, and while some resolutions were agreed upon, the companies have refused to implement the resolutions.

The letter reads, “In the light of the above, we do not see you Eland/Elcrestand NPDC. As responsible, peace loving corporate citizens, who want to operate on our area. Your motives are not clear to us, hence we have no option than to ask you to vacate our land within five days.”
