LAGOS—The senator, representing Anambra Central in the Senate, Annie Okonkwo, has described as tragic the sequence of criminals’ kidnap of innocent pupils in Aba and the latest bombing in Abuja during the country’s Golden jubilee celebrations.

Senator Annie Okonkwo made the observation in a reaction to the two incidents, regretting that while pensive Nigerians were yet to unravel how and why kidnappers showed no restraint, even to innocent children’s kidnap in Aba, they were served chilling vomits as desserts in Abuja with innocent adults’ blood

The Senator, who made his views known through a release by his Special Assistant Media, Mr. Collins Ugwu, stated: “As we sympathize with the victims of this heart rending carnage, I urge our security agencies to radically and quickly resolve this indecent rape of our collective passion for constitutionality and good governance, and restore the positive rhythm that 2011 elections holds for us all.

“Having watched with pride the professionalism and vitality displayed at the Eagle Square parade by these agencies, they cannot afford to lapse into excuses and predictive silence over these grave dents.”

Sen. Okonkwo, a crusader for healthy environment and advocate for equality of states for the zones, demanded that injustice as the common denominator of most aggressions in Nigeria must now be confronted frontally.

He emphasized that it had become imperative and should be accepted as a fundamental premise that the burden of Nigeria’s critical national introspections laid more on the shoulders of everybody who operated, operates or seek to operate the apparatus of governance across the country, be they political, social or religious.

According to him, this self purge may not be very revealing, but certainly regenerative to the people’s psyche as a nation in a democracy.

The Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, who was 50 recently, reasoned that true celebration for Nigerians would come with their jealous watch for free, transparent and credible elections in 2011.
