WORKERS of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, Monday, insisted that over 50 of them were yet to be fully paid their monetisation benefits and threatened to embark on an indefinite industrial action.
This came even as they advised leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and government officials to stop intimidating and threatening their leaders over a ridiculous allegation that the workers were being used by opposition against the government, saying it was PDP and agents of government that were being by used to appropriate national assets to themselves.
Under the umbrella of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, the workers challenged government to publish the names of workers that had been paid monetisation and how much they were paid, accusing government officials of pilfering their monetisation benefits.
Reacting to the numerous attacks on the union and its leadership over refusal of government and the management of PHCN to honour agreement reached with workers including monetisation, union said its leadership had no apology on its position especially workers’ welfare and agreements freely entred into by government and its agencies.
A statement signed by Isaac Babatunde, Assistant General Secretary, said: “We wish to strongly condemn the refusal of government/PHCN management to honour the collective agreement it entered into with PHCN workers over payment of monetisation arrears to eligible staff within one (1) week effective August 8, 2010.”
