CALABAR—Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, has unveiled a Jubilee Roundabout in Calabar, the state capital, to commemorate Nigeria’s 50th Independence Day anniversary celebration.
According to Imoke while unveiling the Nigeria Coat of Arms at the weekend, Nigeria needs a befitting monument to mark the jubilee because it is a great country, explaining that the effigy depicts the country’s unity, faith and peace as a great country to the glory of God, for his mercy in helping it stay together and to the good people of Cross River State.
Imoke said that despite the nation’s history, which has seen the political disturbance of the South West, a civil war and the annulment of June 12, 1993 elections, the nation has remained one and united.
To mark the 50th Anniversary of Nigeria, the state government executed and commissioned a Nigerian Coat of Arms monument for the first time in the history of Nigeria.
The Coat of Arms has a shield with two strips that come together like the letter ‘Y’, which represents the two main rivers flowing through Nigeria-River Niger and River Benue, as well as Nigeria’s good earth, while the horses on each side represent dignity, the eagle represents strength while the striped bands on top of the shield represent the rich agricultural land of the country.
By this act, Cross River has again been in the forefront of the vanguard to standardize the nationalistic symbols as a platform to inject patriotism and national pride in the spirit of the true rebranding of Nigeria
