Yenagoa—The Joint Task Force, JTF, has assured Nigerians and foreign nationals of its committed to its mandate of ensuring the safety of lives and property in the Niger Delta region.

But the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Bayelsa State, has described the Abuja bomb blasts in which several lives were lost as a big slap on the nation’s security agencies and called for its overhauling.

The JTF said it felt sad by the irresponsible act that took many lives in Abuja, on independence day.

Coordinator of the Joint Media Campaign Centre, Lt. Col Timothy Antigha said in Yenagoa, “we wish to assure Nigerians and foreign nationals of our commitment to our mandate of ensuring the safety of lives and property in the Niger Delta regions.”

He advised the public to go about their business without fear of molestation.
Meanwhile, ACN in Bayelsa called for the overhauling of the nation security system in the aftermath of the deadly explosion that rocked Abuja in which several lives were lost.

Acting Chairman of ACN in the state, Mr. Ebikibina Miriki who described the blasts as most unfortunate at a time when the nation needed to have sober reflection to the tackle the challenges ahead urged the federal government to probe the alleged involvement of Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) in the terrorist act.

Though MEND has claimed responsibility for the blast Miriki expressed worry that such attack on the federal capital territory could emboldened other rogue organisations to want to destabilise the country if the nation security agencies fail to live up to their responsibilities.

“The government should carry out thorough investigation to unravel the brains behind the Abuja bomb blasts as well as the MEND statement in which the latter claimed responsibility,” he said.

Miriki noted that the country should not be allowed to drift into a pariah state because of the activities of some faceless persons masquerading as freedom fighters.
ACN submitted that without being brought to book others would still indulge in the act.

“The attack by MEND calls for proper investigation and the culprits should be brought to book, more so that Mr. President is from the Niger Delta. It is embarrassing and worrisome,” Ebikibina said.
