THE Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) topshots shot themselves in the leg in Abia State, when in a bid to cow Governor Theodore Orji and the people of the state after many of years of impoverishing them, pushed them to the wall.
They had fought back, because it was a much-awaited opportunity to tame the monster called PPA and those behind it.
That was how Abia State became a lost empire to PPA and the godfather and mother.
Because Abia State and Orji represented the only face of the party in Nigeria, the party naturally died following Orji’s exit. Some political chicaneries by those behind the party to return to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) failed again making their loss a double tragedy of monumental proportion.
Even their covert efforts to persuade Governor Orji and the people to accommodate them in the new scheme of things in the State failed because the people of the State knowing what they stand for, could not tolerate them anymore so that they would not drag them back to bondage after gaining liberation and independence.
To conclude the extinction of the party in the State, the former Deputy Governor of the state and a key loyalist of the godfather and godmother of PPA, Comrade Chris Akomas was impeached.
With this, an average person living in the State knows that PPA is now a thing of the past as a new order has been thrown up in the State with Orji leading and ably supported by an overwhelming majority of the people, especially the major stakeholders in the State.
But surprisingly as Abians rejoice and look forward to better days ahead with their new found love in the mainstream politics of the country, the PDP, some few elements in the State seem to be still living in the past world of fantasy as they have failed to be in touch with the reality on ground now in the State.
And the question is: what is their interest in the State? Is it altruistic or selfish? It seems to be the latter, but they are bound to fail because the State is liberated and nothing will take it back to bondage.
The recent gathering of remnants of PPA in the State attended by Dr. Ezeogo Emeka Onuoha, the imposed State chairman of PPA in State and Stanley Ohajuruka, a member representing Umuahia/ Ikwuano Federal Constituency in House of Representatives showed that people have failed to realise the need to live, identify and align with majority of the people for a better tomorrow.
At the meeting, instead of addressing the political waterloo staring them on the face, Ohajuruka choose to malign and attack Governor Orji. He said that godfathers are indispensable in politics and that Orji is good at administration and bureaucracy, but in politics and governance, he was a novice.
The above statement came from somebody who had occupied the position of Speaker in the State Assembly, but had nothing to show for it, except being an errand boy to the then governor Orji Uzor Kalu for which he was later compensated with a seat in the House of Representatives where his performance rating leaves nothing to be desired.
One cannot remember a day or the day Ohajuruka spoke on the floor of the House or how many bills he has sponsored for the betterment of the people. We cannot see his achievements in his constituency, despite the huge amount of money given as constituency project funds.
Maybe he is afraid that he will not be re-elected next year due to his dismal performance so far or did he still believe that advocating for the indispensability of godfathers in the State will guarantee him a return ticket.
That is self- delusion, hallucination and fantasy of a defeated man. As far as the State is concerned, the godfather or godmother syndrome is dead for good. There is no going back and those who failed to join the moving train in the State like Ohajuruka and Onuoha will have themselves to blame later.
Was Onuoha not forcefully imposed on the party without congress by the cabal that held the party and State to ransom for long before the jinx was broken by Orji?
For Ohajuruka to say that Orji is good in administration and bureaucracy, but lacks political and governance savvy means that he has no good knowledge of what governance is all about even after being in the system for years. Ohajuruka failed to understand that administration and governance are different sides of the same coin and they cannot do without each other.
If he acknowledged that Orji is a good administrator and bureaucrat, it means that he is a good governor as he has displayed a high level of maturity and understanding in steering the ship of the State since he assumed office.
All the decisions he has taken, including the recent defection to PDP has been applauded and supported by the people. He has not miscalculated, because he consults widely. So what did Ohajuruka wants the people to believe and accept?
For now, it is over for PPA in Abia State and the people have taken over what belongs to them.
