BENIN—FORMER Chief of General Staff, Admiral Mike Akhigbe, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure that the crisis bedeviling the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in some states are settled before the presidential primaries of the party, warning that it will be disastrous for the party if “fake” delegates were allowed to vote in the presidential primaries.

Akhigbe, who also accused the former Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, of allegedly misinforming the President and the National Chairman of the party, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, of the true position of the crisis in the Edo State chapter of the party, said that the so-called reconciliation between the Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia-led PDP and that of Chief Anenih, never existed because “the right thing is yet to be done by the leadership of the party.”

He spoke, weekend, in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state, shortly after he was unanimously elected as the leader of the PDP in Edo North senatorial district of the state. The event was shunned, however, by loyalists of Chief Anenih, who had penultimate week, anointed the Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Oghiadohme, as the leader in the area.

According to Admiral Akhigbe, “ all this talk about peaceful relationship between Ogbemudia and Anenih do not actually exist. Chief Anenih was looking for opportunity to give an impression to the presidency that everything is settled but how do you settle a matter when you are not addressing the right issues?

People were elected as executive for the various tiers of the party, so all we are saying is let the right thing be done, if that is not done, the thing will only be settled when we do the right thing.
