KANO — The Leke Abejide Foundation has commenced the registration and documentation of vulnerable persons in Kano State ahead of its forthcoming empowerment programme.

The initiative is targeted at widows, less-privileged persons, vulnerable families, women, youths, artisans, traders and other residents in need of economic and social support.

The Programme Coordinator of the foundation, Hon. Seyi Olorunsola, disclosed this on Monday during the ongoing registration exercise at the Kano Pillars Stadium, France Road, Sabon Gari, Kano.

Olorunsola said the registration was being conducted through community structures and relevant organisations to ensure that deserving persons across the 44 local government areas of the state are identified.

He urged community leaders, religious organisations, community associations and other stakeholders to nominate genuinely vulnerable persons and ensure that their details are properly documented and verified.

“Our priority is to ensure that deserving members of our communities are properly identified and given an opportunity to benefit from this empowerment initiative,” Olorunsola said.

He also called on those involved in the nomination process to ensure fairness and transparency in the selection of beneficiaries.

“We are encouraging community leaders and relevant organisations to approach the nomination process with sincerity, fairness and transparency,” he said.

The foundation said prospective beneficiaries are expected to provide accurate and verifiable personal and banking information as part of the documentation process.

It added that the programme would cover Yoruba residents and other community members across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.

According to the organisers, preparations are ongoing to ensure that the empowerment programme is conducted peacefully and orderly, in collaboration with relevant authorities.

The organisers reaffirmed their commitment to working with community stakeholders to ensure that the empowerment programme reaches genuine beneficiaries.
