The Yoruba Leaders Forum (YLF) has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027, while urging him to recognise the contributions and sacrifices of Yoruba leaders, grassroots mobilisers and other stakeholders who supported his emergence in the 2023 presidential election.

The Forum, in a statement signed by its National Leader, Barr. George Ogunjimi, and Secretary-General, HRH Sooko Agoriesin Oladotun Hassan, Aare Yoruba Agbaye and President, Yoruba Council Worldwide, said its position followed extensive consultations on the political situation in the country and developments ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group called for greater political unity, strategic organisation and constructive engagement among Yoruba stakeholders to ensure effective participation in the electoral process.

It also urged eligible citizens to register to vote, obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate peacefully and responsibly in the 2027 elections.

According to the Forum, its support for Tinubu does not preclude constructive criticism or demands for greater inclusion in governance.

It said many individuals and groups that worked for the President’s victory in 2023 felt their efforts had not received adequate recognition through appointments, developmental projects, consultation and participation in policy implementation.

The YLF therefore urged Tinubu to address the concerns, stressing that recognition should translate into “meaningful consultation, inclusion, development and opportunities for competent stakeholders to contribute to governance.”

The Forum also disclosed plans to seek a direct audience with the President to present a comprehensive memorandum containing the concerns and expectations of Yoruba stakeholders.

It said such engagement would help establish a stronger consultation framework between the Presidency and Yoruba leadership on issues including security, infrastructure, agriculture, employment, economic development and social welfare.

On security, the Forum called for inclusive and coordinated security architecture across Yorubaland.
It advocated collaboration among existing community security initiatives, including the Oodua People’s Congress, Iru Ekun Security Network/Hunters, Southwest security groups, vigilantes, Agbekoya, Atunluse and Eso Abo Oodua Agbaye, provided they operate within the law and in coordination with recognised security agencies.

The group said collective efforts should focus on protecting farms, schools, highways, markets, government infrastructure, businesses and communities.

Meanwhile, the YLF said it would work with the Yoruba Council Worldwide to mobilise traditional rulers and stakeholders for the second edition of the Yoruba Obas Conference scheduled for November 7, 2026, at Ojaja Arena Resort, Ile-Ife.

The Forum urged Yoruba traditional, political, community, youth and women leaders to remain united, saying the strength of the people lies in their ability to speak with one voice while respecting legitimate differences.
