Says facility will bridge digital gap in Southern Kaduna

KADUNA — The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung, has explained that the construction of a 700-capacity Information and Communication Technology, ICT, and Computer-Based Test, CBT, centre in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, is aimed at bridging the digital divide and equipping youths in Southern Kaduna with skills required in the modern economy.

Katung stated this on Saturday during an inspection of the ongoing project, saying the facility was designed to expose students and other young people in the area to computers and modern technology while improving their educational and career opportunities.

He said: “I decided to bring this project here because our young people, especially our students, need to be exposed to the use of computers and modern technology.

“This facility will provide them with the opportunity to acquire ICT skills that will be useful to them in their education and future careers.”

The senator, who expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the project site, urged the contractors to adhere strictly to the contract specifications and complete the facility within the stipulated 12-month timeframe.

“I am impressed with the pace and quality of work that I have seen here. But I want to challenge the contractors to adhere strictly to the contractual agreement and ensure that this project is delivered within the stipulated 12 months,” he said.

According to Katung, the centre, when completed, will serve not only as a CBT facility for examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, West African Examinations Council, WAEC, and other bodies, but also as a hub for digital learning, innovation and skills development.

He said the facility would be accessible to youths across the eight local government areas that make up the senatorial district, providing opportunities to acquire relevant digital competencies.

Katung also appealed to his constituents to continue supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the developmental initiatives of Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.

Conducting the senator around the project site, the Site Engineer, Builder Haruna Daniel, said the facility, upon completion, would be among the biggest ICT centres in the country.

Daniel assured that the contractors were committed to delivering a quality project within the agreed timeframe.

Katung said the inspection formed part of his routine monitoring of projects facilitated for the people of Kaduna South Senatorial District.
