…says projects will boost education, jobs

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Ogun State Joint Campus Council, JCC, has thrown its weight behind Governor Dapo Abiodun’s latest wave of infrastructure and security initiatives, declaring that the projects will strengthen education, stimulate economic growth and create greater opportunities for young people across the state.

The student body said the Ogun State Executive Council’s approval of major road reconstruction projects, housing developments, institutional upgrades and enhanced security measures reflects a deliberate strategy to position the state for sustainable development.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Habeebullahi Adekunle Tijani, NANS described the approvals as evidence of purposeful leadership and long-term planning capable of improving the quality of life for students, youths and residents.

According to the association, the reconstruction of key roads across Ogun’s three senatorial districts will improve access to tertiary institutions, reduce travel time, enhance road safety and facilitate academic, commercial and agricultural activities.

It noted that improved transportation infrastructure would also attract investment, generate employment and expand economic opportunities for graduates and entrepreneurs seeking to establish themselves in the state.

NANS also applauded the state’s approval of a 450-unit housing scheme and other residential projects, describing them as strategic investments that would increase access to affordable housing, stimulate the construction industry and strengthen the local economy.

The association said the housing projects would equally make Ogun more attractive to young professionals, innovators and graduates seeking opportunities in the state.

On governance, the student body welcomed the reconstruction of the Ogun State House of Assembly Quarters and the Governor’s Lodge, saying the projects would preserve critical public assets, improve institutional efficiency and support effective governance.

The association further praised Governor Abiodun’s commitment to strengthening security, particularly the collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force that culminated in the deployment of an operational police aircraft to the state.

It also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for approving the deployment, expressing confidence that enhanced aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and the reinforcement of Operation Kosaye would improve security in forests, border communities and other vulnerable areas.

NANS stressed that a peaceful and secure environment remains indispensable for uninterrupted academic activities, research, entrepreneurship, tourism and overall economic prosperity.

The student body also lauded the government’s continued support for traditional institutions through the recognition and upgrading of deserving chieftaincies, noting that traditional rulers remain vital partners in grassroots governance, conflict resolution and community-based intelligence.

It added that the combination of improved infrastructure, enhanced security, housing expansion and institutional development has continued to reinforce Ogun State’s reputation as a leading destination for education, industrialisation, investment and youth development.

While commending the administration’s achievements, NANS urged the state government to sustain investments in education by improving learning facilities in tertiary institutions, expanding student empowerment programmes, creating more internship and innovation opportunities, and strengthening partnerships that would equip graduates for global competitiveness.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that promote peace, educational advancement, sustainable development and economic prosperity across Ogun State.
