2027: Makarfi’s legacy will drive PDP’s bid to reclaim Kaduna — Bawa

By Ibrahim Hassan-Wuyo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Rt. Hon. Usman S. Bawa (ABG), has described former governor of the state, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, CON, as a statesman whose contributions to Kaduna and Nigeria have continued to inspire successive generations of leaders.

Bawa, in a congratulatory message to mark Makarfi’s 70th birthday, said the former governor’s seven decades of life and service had been defined by vision, humility, intellect and an enduring commitment to unity, justice and good governance.

He said Makarfi’s eight-year tenure as governor of Kaduna State, from 1999 to 2007, established important foundations for the state’s development, particularly through investments in infrastructure, education and healthcare.

According to him, the administration also promoted religious harmony, inclusiveness and a governance philosophy that sought to serve citizens regardless of their ethnic, religious or social backgrounds.

Bawa further commended Makarfi for his contributions to national politics, particularly his tenure as chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, where, he said, the former governor demonstrated political maturity, restraint and commitment to democratic institutions.

The PDP candidate noted that Makarfi provided leadership during a challenging period for the opposition party, helping to strengthen its internal cohesion and restore confidence among its members and supporters.

He described the former governor as a mentor, bridge-builder and voice of reason whose commitment to equity, inclusiveness and the rule of law remained relevant to contemporary political leadership.

Bawa said Makarfi’s legacy would continue to provide inspiration as the PDP seeks to reconnect with the people of Kaduna State and reclaim the state in the 2027 governorship election.

He described the former governor as one of the political figures whose contributions transcended partisan considerations, saying his record of public service had earned him respect across political and social divides.

Bawa, who extended the birthday greetings on behalf of his family, supporters and the PDP family in Kaduna State, thanked Almighty Allah for preserving Makarfi to attain the age of 70 and for the positive impact he had made in the lives of many people.

He prayed for continued good health, strength, wisdom and many more years of impactful service to Kaduna State, Nigeria and humanity.

“May your legacy endure, may your counsel continue to guide us, and may your light never dim,” Bawa said.
