The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has strengthened its partnership with the Kingdom of Denmark to tackle maritime security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea and improve migration management.
The Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, in a statement, said the engagement took place at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja, where the Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, was represented by the Deputy Comptroller General in charge of Border Management, DCG A.R. Sabo.

He said a delegation from the Royal Danish Embassy, led by the Deputy Head of Mission, Ms. Julie Rosenkilde Hannibal, was received by the NIS leadership as part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation on border security.

Speaking during the meeting, DCG Sabo reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to fostering stronger collaboration with Denmark in support of regional security, effective border governance and migration management.

He said discussions focused on the scope of future partnership in addressing security threats within the Gulf of Guinea, strengthening border governance, combating irregular migration, and promoting safe, orderly and regular migration.

According to the NIS, both parties also explored opportunities for enhanced technical cooperation, capacity building and information sharing in areas of mutual interest.

“The Deputy Comptroller General appreciated the Danish delegation for the visit and expressed optimism that the partnership would further contribute to the attainment of shared security and development objectives,” Akinlabi said.

The Gulf of Guinea has remained a hotspot for piracy, arms smuggling and other transnational crimes, with Nigeria playing a central role in regional maritime security efforts.

The NIS noted that the collaboration with Denmark is expected to boost Nigeria’s capacity to secure its borders and manage migration in line with international best practices.
