The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) have agreed to explore areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening surveying education, including plans for the establishment of a Department of Surveying at the university.
The proposed partnership was announced during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Anambra State Chapter of the NIS to the Vice-Chancellor of COOU, Prof. Kate Omenugha, at the university’s Igbariam Campus.
Speaking during the visit, the Anambra State Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Surv. Gabby Okeke, said the association was keen on partnering with the university and appealed for the establishment of a Department of Surveying.
Okeke expressed confidence in the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership, assuring her of the institution’s support towards achieving the initiative.
Responding, Prof. Omenugha welcomed the proposal and reaffirmed the university management’s commitment to exploring areas of collaboration with the professional body.
She urged the NIS to submit a comprehensive proposal to facilitate the university’s internal approval process, noting that the document would serve as the basis for consideration by the university’s Senate and other relevant authorities.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated COOU’s commitment to partnerships that would expand its academic programmes and strengthen professional education in line with national development goals.
