SOKOTO — Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Monday inaugurated a ₦3.7 billion road network project in Sokoto State, describing it as a strategic investment that will boost economic growth, improve connectivity and enhance residents’ quality of life.

The project, located in the Buzaye area of Sokoto metropolis, was executed by the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu as part of its urban renewal and infrastructure development programme.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Kefas described his visit as a “homecoming,” citing the longstanding historical, cultural and social ties between Taraba and Sokoto states.

He commended the Sokoto State Government for prioritising infrastructure development, saying investments in road networks are critical to sustainable development and economic prosperity.

“I am very happy to be here. I have seen what my colleague is doing and I am highly impressed,” he said.

Kefas praised Governor Aliyu for implementing projects aimed at improving public services and addressing the developmental needs of the people.

He also called for stronger collaboration among state governments, saying partnerships and the exchange of ideas among leaders are essential to addressing common challenges and accelerating national development.

“Whenever leaders work together and share ideas, they are better positioned to solve the problems facing their people. Unity and cooperation among leaders will always translate into greater benefits for citizens,” he said.

The Taraba governor urged residents to continue supporting government programmes, noting that sustainable development thrives in an atmosphere of peace, unity and cooperation.

In his remarks, Governor Ahmed Aliyu said the newly completed Buzaye Road Network comprises Argungu Road, Gobir Road, Lanzu Road and other connecting roads designed to improve accessibility and ease movement within the area.

He said the project forms part of his administration’s broader urban renewal agenda aimed at expanding infrastructure and stimulating economic activities across Sokoto metropolis.

“Road infrastructure remains one of the most critical foundations for sustainable socio-economic development. Well-constructed roads facilitate the movement of people and goods, improve access to essential services and stimulate economic growth,” Aliyu said.

The governor noted that the roads would ease transportation challenges, enhance commercial activities, improve security and provide better access to residential communities, schools, healthcare facilities and markets.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable and inclusive development, describing infrastructure as an investment in economic opportunities and the future prosperity of the people.

Aliyu commended the Ministry of Lands and Housing, contractors, consultants, engineers and community members for their roles in delivering the project and urged residents to protect and maintain the roads.

He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for ongoing federal infrastructure investments, saying they complement state government efforts to improve the welfare of Nigerians.
