The Convener of the YM4YAYI Movement in Ogun State, Comrade Adigun Uthman Abayomi, has called on youths across the state to support the governorship aspiration of Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, describing the lawmaker as a consistent advocate of youth development and students’ welfare.
Speaking in a statement made available to journalists, Abayomi said Senator Adeola’s record of scholarships, bursaries, youth empowerment programmes and other interventions has distinguished him as a leader committed to improving the lives of young people in Ogun State.
According to him, the senator’s support for students and youths predates his governorship ambition.
“Some people ask whether Senator Adeola is supporting students and youths because he wants to become governor. Our answer is no. His commitment to education, youth empowerment and the welfare of the people has been evident long before the current political season,” Abayomi stated.
The youth leader said the YM4YAYI Movement recently intensified efforts to encourage eligible young people to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), noting that the initiative was aimed at increasing youth participation in the democratic process.
He disclosed that members of the movement engaged with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to facilitate voter registration and make the process more accessible for young people across the state.
“We considered it important to encourage and support Ogun youths to register and obtain their PVCs because their voices matter. Democracy thrives when young people actively participate in the electoral process,” he said.
Abayomi further urged youths to remember individuals and communities that, according to him, had benefited from Senator Adeola’s educational support, empowerment programmes and constituency interventions.
He said many students had received scholarships and bursaries, while several young people had benefited from empowerment initiatives and other forms of assistance.
The convener also commended what he described as Senator Adeola’s representation of Ogun West Senatorial District, adding that the lawmaker had contributed to infrastructure, education, healthcare, road development and community projects across the state.
“As the election approaches, we encourage every eligible voter to make good use of the PVC they have obtained. Talk to your parents, siblings, friends, colleagues and neighbours about participating in the electoral process. Every vote counts in shaping the future of Ogun State,” Abayomi said.
He called on residents to support Senator Adeola’s governorship ambition, expressing confidence that his leadership would sustain development and prioritise the welfare of the people.
“We believe Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi has demonstrated the capacity and commitment required to lead Ogun State. We therefore urge the people to support his aspiration and allow what we consider his good work to continue,” he added.
Senator Olamilekan Adeola has declared his interest in the Ogun State governorship race ahead of the next electoral cycle.
