A former International President of the All African Students for Peace and Development, Mr. Martins Chiedozie Ugwu, has urged residents of Enugu State to assess the performance of elected leaders as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gradually gather momentum.
In a statement, Ugwu encouraged citizens to evaluate governments by comparing campaign promises with outcomes, particularly in areas that affect their daily lives.
He said issues such as access to potable water, affordable housing, economic conditions and infrastructure development are among the factors voters may consider when assessing public office holders.
Ugwu also noted that many Nigerians continue to face economic challenges associated with inflation and the high cost of living, which he said have affected households, businesses and livelihoods.
He urged voters to make informed decisions during the 2027 elections based on their assessment of government performance.
“The true measure of governance is the extent to which it improves the lives of ordinary citizens. As another election cycle approaches, the electorate should compare promises with results and make informed decisions based on evidence,” he said.
Ugwu said democratic governance requires accountability and that elections provide citizens with an opportunity to evaluate the performance of public office holders.
He added that while campaign promises may influence electoral support, sustaining public confidence depends largely on the delivery of policies and programmes that positively impact citizens.
The Enugu State Government has, on various occasions, highlighted achievements in infrastructure, investment promotion, education, healthcare and other sectors as part of its development agenda.
This version removes potentially defamatory or unverified criticisms directed at the Enugu State Government while preserving the core message that voters should assess elected leaders based on their performance.
