The Abeokuta Grammar School Old Boys’ Association (AGSOBA) has announced a week-long line-up of activities to commemorate the school’s 118th Founder’s Day Anniversary, scheduled to hold from Monday, July 13 to Sunday, July 19, 2026. The celebration, themed: Honouring Our Foundations, Building Our Future, will bring together global alumni, students, and stakeholders to celebrate the school’s rich heritage.
According to a press release made available to Vanguard, and signed by Agsoba Abayomi Gbade-Bello,
Global PRO, the event will feature press conference on July 13, highlighting AGSOBA’s scorecards; Valedictory Service, Staff Appreciation Dinner, Variety Night, the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and the commissioning of vital new projects within the school premises, alongside special Jumat service on Friday and Thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 19, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Ake, Abeokuta, starting at 1:00 p.m.
“A major highlight of the event is the Anniversary Lecture titled: Honouring Our Foundations, Building Our Future: From Classroom to Relevance on July 15, at the AGSOBA Hall to be delivered by the Minister of State for Health, Agsoba Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako.
AGSOBA President-General, Dr. Obafemi Kotoye stated that the celebration preserves the school’s legacy while inspiring future development. He emphasized that the global alumni network continuously invests in infrastructure, academic support and plans to resuscitate the School Governing Board so as to accelerate growth.
Kotoye praised the school’s standing, noting its array of globally distinguished alumni including traditional ruler, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso; Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti; Professor Olikoye Ransome-Kuti; activist, Dr. Beko Anikulapo-Kuti, and Minister Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako. Others are filmmaker, Tunde Kelani, Professor Olusola Babatunde Kehinde, and Afrobeats musician, Kizz Daniel
