Abiodun Rewards Outstanding Graduating Students

No fewer than 183 graduates were awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in various disciplines as Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State, held its 15th postgraduate convocation ceremony.

A total of 665 postgraduate students graduated during the ceremony, comprising 70 recipients of postgraduate diplomas, 391 master’s degree graduates, 21 Master of Philosophy (MPhil) graduates and 183 PhD recipients.

In his address, the President/Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, described the occasion as a celebration of lives shaped by discipline, perseverance, sacrifice and God’s grace.

Congratulating the doctoral graduates, Ojewole said the achievement represented years of rigorous research, resilience and commitment to advancing knowledge.

He urged them to view the doctorate as a call to greater responsibility rather than merely an academic accomplishment.

“A doctorate is not simply about accumulating knowledge. It is about developing the discipline to seek truth with integrity, the humility to keep learning and the wisdom to use knowledge for the good of others,” he said.

He encouraged the graduates to continue seeking solutions to societal challenges, mentor younger scholars and ensure that their research remains relevant to humanity.

The Vice-Chancellor also reminded them that excellence must be accompanied by integrity and reaffirmed that the university would continue to be guided by its G.R.A.C.E. mandate.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, commended Babcock University for its contributions to education and national development, assuring the institution of the state government’s continued support.

The governor also announced cash rewards for the institution’s best graduating postgraduate students.

The overall best Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) graduate received ₦1.5 million, while the best graduates in the Master’s, Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) categories were awarded ₦2 million each.

The best PhD graduate received a cash prize of ₦2.5 million.

Governor Abiodun also announced a ₦2.5 million reward for the university’s overall best undergraduate graduating student, whose convocation ceremony is scheduled to hold next Sunday.
