OWO — Political leaders and stakeholders in Iloro Ward 6, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have rejected the reported suspension of the Chairman of Owo Local Government, Elder Tope Omolayo, describing it as politically motivated and lacking legitimacy.

In a joint statement signed by Olasunkanmi Olaoye, Ademola Ogundele, Oluwatoyin Olagbende and Iyabode Olasunbo Adejoji, the stakeholders dismissed the suspension as a “charade of shame,” alleging that it was orchestrated by a few individuals to embarrass the council chairman.

They urged the public and party members to disregard the action, insisting it did not reflect the collective position of the ward and lacked moral and political credibility.

According to the group, the suspension was not based on issues of discipline or alleged anti-party activities, but was instead a calculated attempt to undermine Omolayo’s influence and popularity.

The stakeholders further alleged that some ward executives were pressured into endorsing the suspension, claiming that several acted under duress rather than conviction.

They argued that due process, including fair hearing and proper consultation, was not followed, thereby invalidating the decision.

The statement also expressed concern over what it described as external interference in the political affairs of the ward, warning that such actions could deepen divisions among party members and residents.

“Politics should unite people after contests, not destroy relationships because of ambition,” the stakeholders said, adding that political differences should not be used to promote intimidation or bitterness.

Reaffirming their support for Omolayo, they maintained that the suspension lacked genuine acceptance among party members and would not affect his standing within the area.

They called on the public to disregard what they described as a “purported suspension,” insisting it had no moral weight or political legitimacy.

The stakeholders expressed confidence that the truth would eventually emerge, adding that “truth will always stand taller than intimidation.”
