A group within the Ebonyi State chapter of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), known as the Ebonyi Integrity Group (EIG), has called on the party’s national leadership to remain focused as discussions continue over the outcome of the Ebonyi Central Senatorial District primary election.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, the group’s National Coordinator, Chief Maxwell Onwe, and National Publicity Secretary, Friday Ogboji Nweke, reacted to a recent protest by individuals seeking clarity on the yet-to-be-announced results of the primary election.
The group urged party leaders to allow the established processes to run their course, noting that the official results of the contest between Professor Bernard Odoh and Architect Christian Asaga Nwali were still being awaited.
According to the statement, both aspirants are qualified candidates, and the party leadership should be given the opportunity to complete its review and announcement procedures without undue pressure.
The EIG expressed concern that ongoing disagreements surrounding the exercise could create unnecessary divisions within the party and distract from preparations for the 2027 elections.
The group also appealed to key party leaders, including members of the National Working Committee and other stakeholders, to remain committed to strengthening the party and promoting unity among members.
It stressed the need for party supporters to respect internal democratic processes and await the official outcome of the primary election.
The statement further urged members to avoid actions or comments that could heighten tensions while the party concludes its deliberations on the exercise.
The Ebonyi Central Senatorial District primary has attracted considerable attention within the party, with supporters of various aspirants expressing interest in the final outcome.
As of the time of filing this report, the NDC had yet to officially announce the result of the primary election.
