Governor Dapo Abiodun has said the Ogun State Government is strengthening security around schools across the state, stressing that the safety of children remains a top priority amid growing security concerns.
Speaking in his Democracy Day address, the governor disclosed that his administration had intensified surveillance around educational institutions, deployed security personnel to strategic locations, strengthened collaboration among security agencies and adopted technology-driven monitoring systems to protect schools.
According to Abiodun, the measures are aimed at preventing criminal activities around schools and ensuring a safe environment for teaching and learning.
“Recognising that the safety of our children is fundamental to the future of our state, we have intensified security measures around educational institutions.
“This includes increased surveillance, deployment of security personnel to strategic locations, stronger inter-agency collaboration, and the use of modern technology to monitor critical areas.
“These interventions are designed to detect criminal activities and ensure that schools remain safe and conducive environments for learning,” the governor said.
He noted that the enhanced security architecture is designed to identify potential threats early, deter criminal elements and maintain secure learning environments across the state.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting pupils, students, teachers and other members of the education community, insisting that no effort would be spared in safeguarding schools.
Abiodun emphasised that securing schools is essential to building a brighter future for Ogun State, adding that the government would continue to invest in initiatives that guarantee the safety and well-being of children.
Also speaking, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the School Protection Squad remains active and vigilant in carrying out its mandate of safeguarding educational institutions across the state.
“The Ogun State Police Command’s School Protection Squad is active, vigilant and fully operational, remaining steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of students, teachers and educational institutions across the state,” Babaseyi said.
The state government said the measures reflect its determination to prevent security breaches in schools and reassure parents that proactive steps are being taken to protect learners and school personnel.
