A Nigerian professional body, the Omituntun Initiative in the Diaspora (OID), has commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for his swift response to the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The group also praised the governor’s proactive security measures, including the signing of Executive Order 001 of 2026, which it said is aimed at strengthening the regulation and coordination of local security operations and improving the protection of lives and property.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Barrister Ayotomiwa Adebayo, OID said it is closely monitoring developments and remains engaged with the unfolding rescue efforts.
The group described the abduction as a deeply troubling incident that has drawn concern both within Nigeria and among citizens in the diaspora.
It commended the ongoing efforts of the Oyo State Government, security agencies, and other stakeholders working to secure the release of the victims, noting that Governor Makinde’s response reflected decisive leadership in a time of crisis.
OID expressed solidarity with the affected families, the management of the schools involved, and the people of Oyo State, stressing that every Nigerian life must be protected.
It also praised the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies involved in the rescue operation, urging them to ensure that all perpetrators and their collaborators are brought to justice.
The group warned that rising insecurity, particularly kidnappings and attacks on schools, continues to threaten national stability and undermine public confidence.
It called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to address insecurity through reforms such as improved intelligence gathering, stronger inter-agency coordination, better funding for security operations, and the deployment of modern technology. It also reiterated calls for the establishment of state police.
“The protection of lives and property must remain a top priority of government,” the statement said, urging urgent and decisive action to curb violent crime across the country.
OID further called for collective action involving all tiers of government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and citizens in tackling insecurity.
The group expressed optimism that ongoing rescue efforts would lead to the safe return of the abducted students and teachers, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting peace and development initiatives in Oyo State and across Nigeria.
