The Executive Chairman of Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, popularly known as Olugbani, has been honoured with the Rootwatch National Award for Distinguished Local Government Chairmen in recognition of his contributions to grassroots development, accountability and the advancement of education within the council area.
The award was presented to Saliu on Wednesday at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, where he was recognised for what organisers described as quality leadership, effective service delivery and commitment to transparent governance.
The honour, according to officials of Apapa Iganmu LCDA, underscores the chairman’s efforts in strengthening educational development and implementing people-oriented programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
In a congratulatory message issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the council, staff and management of the LCDA described the award as a fitting recognition of Saliu’s dedication to public service and transformative leadership.
The statement noted that the chairman’s administration had continued to prioritise education and community development, earning him commendation from stakeholders within and outside the council.
“On behalf of the entire staff and workforce of Apapa Iganmu LCDA, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to our esteemed Executive Chairman, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu (Olugbani), on this quality leadership through service delivery and accountability, as recognised by the Rootwatch National Award for Distinguished Local Government Chairmen,” the statement read.
It added that the recognition was a testament to the chairman’s “enormous positive contributions to the educational sector in Apapa Iganmu LCDA.”
The council further expressed confidence that the award would spur the chairman to sustain his developmental drive and commitment to grassroots governance.

Residents and stakeholders in the LCDA have continued to acknowledge the administration’s efforts in improving public services, particularly in the education sector, where several initiatives have been introduced to enhance learning opportunities and support educational growth.
The Rootwatch National Award is presented annually to public officials and institutions adjudged to have demonstrated exceptional leadership, accountability and commitment to development at various levels of governance.
