SOKOTO:-The Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unanimously endorsed former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, declaring that Nigeria urgently needs experienced and visionary leadership capable of rescuing the country from worsening economic and security challenges.
The endorsement was announced during a high powered stakeholders’ Press conference held at the state ADC secretariat and expanded caucus session held in Sokoto on Sunday, where party leaders, youth groups, women representatives and delegates from the 23 local government areas of the state pledged total support for Atiku’s presidential ambition.
Addressing the press at conference , the former chief of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Alhaji Mukhtar S Magori, , described Atiku as “the most experienced and nationally acceptable political figure” with the capacity to unite Nigerians across ethnic, religious and regional lines.
According to him, the decision to adopt the former Vice President as the party’s sole candidate followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and party faithful across the state.
“We have carefully assessed the current state of the nation and the calibre of leaders aspiring to govern this country in 2027. After wide consultations, Sokoto ADC has unanimously resolved to endorse Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as our sole presidential candidate,” he declared.
Magori said Nigeria was passing through difficult times marked by economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity and declining public confidence in governance, stressing that only tested leadership with national reach and democratic credentials could restore hope to citizens.
He noted that Atiku’s track record in public service, private sector development and democratic struggle placed him ahead of other contenders.
“Our country needs healing, economic recovery and national unity. Atiku possesses the experience, courage and leadership capacity to reposition Nigeria and rebuild confidence among citizens and investors,” he added.
The former chief of staff further called on opposition political parties and patriotic Nigerians to close ranks ahead of the 2027 elections in order to “rescue the nation from poor governance and rising hardship.”
In separate remarks, youth and women leaders of the party said the endorsement reflected the collective aspiration of Nigerians yearning for inclusive governance, economic reforms and job creation.
“We believe Atiku Abubakar understands the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians, especially women and youths. His emergence will bring renewed hope and national stability,” she stated.
“We are mobilising massively across communities because the future of this country depends on credible leadership. Nigerians want results, not empty promises,” he said.
The press conference witnessed solidarity messages from party elders, community leaders and political support groups, who pledged to embark on aggressive grassroots mobilisation across Sokoto State and beyond ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Political observers believe the endorsement may strengthen ongoing coalition talks among opposition forces seeking to present a formidable challenge in the next general elections.
The endorsement of Atiku by the Sokoto ADC chapter is expected to generate wider political reactions across the country as preparations gradually gather momentum for the 2027 presidential race.
