PalmPay, LASUBEB deepen efforts to keep more children in school

As part of efforts to tackle the growing challenge of out-of-school children in Nigeria, PalmPay has announced a strategic partnership with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB, to recognise and reward high-performing pupils in selected public schools across Lagos State.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging academic excellence, supporting families, and strengthening efforts to keep more children in school through incentives and educational support.

According to UNICEF, Nigeria currently has about 18.3 million out-of-school children, despite improvements in school enrollment over the years. Stakeholders say sustaining children’s education requires continuous motivation, support systems, and visible opportunities that reinforce the long-term value of learning.

Under the partnership, PalmPay will collaborate with LASUBEB and school administrators to identify outstanding students in selected public schools. Beneficiaries will receive scholarships, shopping vouchers, and branded school kits to support their educational needs and reduce some of the financial burden on their families.

Speaking on the partnership, Managing Director of PalmPay, Chika Nwosu, said the initiative goes beyond rewarding academic performance.

He said: “Recognizing and rewarding high-performing students goes beyond celebrating excellence. It reinforces the value of education, strengthens motivation, and supports families in keeping their children in school.

“Through our partnership with LASUBEB, we are contributing to an ecosystem where young people are encouraged to stay engaged and pursue their ambitions.”

PalmPay noted that by working directly within the public education system, the initiative is structured to provide support where it is most impactful.

The company added that when students see their efforts acknowledged and rewarded, it helps strengthen their commitment to learning while also showing families that consistency and academic discipline can create opportunities for a better future.

The fintech firm said the collaboration also aligns with its broader commitment to economic and social inclusion across Nigeria.

According to the company, beyond expanding financial access and digital payment solutions, it is investing in initiatives that help reduce barriers for underserved families and create pathways for young Nigerians to thrive.

PalmPay added that integrating education-focused interventions into its corporate social responsibility agenda reflects its commitment to strengthening communities, encouraging aspiration, and supporting the development of Nigeria’s future workforce.
