Olu of Warri honours Oborevwori as Itsekiri leaders endorse him, Tinubu for second term

The Itsekiri nation on Sunday formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for second terms ahead of the 2027 general elections during a historic ceremony at the palace of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR.

At the event, Governor Oborevwori was conferred with the prestigious Royal Order of Iwẹrẹ (ROI) by the monarch in recognition of his administration’s developmental strides across Delta State.

Speaking at the gathering, Oborevwori described the endorsement as unprecedented, noting that the Warri palace had traditionally remained politically neutral. He thanked the Itsekiri nation for the confidence reposed in him and President Tinubu and pledged continued infrastructural development in Warri and other parts of the state.

The governor highlighted major projects executed by his administration, including the completion of a 21-kilometre road project with 15 bridges, ongoing rehabilitation of failed roads in Warri communities and the award of the Ode-Itsekiri electrification project.

Dignitaries at the colourful ceremony included former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Emomotimi Guwor, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Delta APC Chairman Solomon Arenyeka and senatorial aspirant Michael Diden.

Others in attendance were members of the National and State Assemblies, commissioners, council chairmen, party leaders and traditional rulers from across Delta State.

The motion endorsing President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori for second terms was moved by Dr. Alex Ideh and adopted by voice vote at the gathering, which also featured cultural performances by Ugbolokposo community on Watch (Ghigho Aghofen) at the Olu Palace.
