No fewer than 1,200 elderly residents of Ogun State have benefited from a free medical outreach organized by the Women’s Wing of the City Boy Movement in Ogun West Senatorial District.

The outreach, held at Oronna Hall, Ilaro, in Yewa South local government area of the State, featured free medical consultations, health checks and distribution of drugs for common age-related ailments.

Organisers said the initiative was part of efforts to complement government’s drive towards improving access to healthcare for vulnerable Nigerians, particularly senior citizens, while also deepening grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking with journalists during the programme, the newly inaugurated Matron of the Movement, Olori Adebisi Olaotan, described the programme as a reflection of the group’s commitment to humanitarian service alongside political mobilisation.

She explained that the intervention formed part of activities marking the inaugural executive meeting of the movement in Ogun West Senatorial District.

According to her, the outreach underscored the importance of community-based interventions in addressing healthcare challenges confronting elderly Nigerians.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda recognises the importance of healthcare, especially for the aged. We believe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves continuity to consolidate ongoing reforms and address years of systemic neglect in the health sector,” she said.

Olaotan urged women across the district to intensify grassroots mobilisation in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, maintaining that sustained leadership was necessary for the success of the administration’s developmental agenda.

She added, “Our goal is not only political mobilisation, but also direct intervention that improves lives. The medical outreach was a practical demonstration of that commitment.”

The group also declared support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity and vision for Ogun State.

Olaotan commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his role in fostering political unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), and for supporting what she described as a consensus arrangement that produced Adeola as the party’s preferred governorship aspirant.

She said Adeola possessed the experience and competence required to lead the state in the next political dispensation, particularly in the area of social welfare and healthcare delivery.

In her goodwill message, the Women Leader of the Movement in Ogun West, Alhaja Modinat Adesina, described the gathering as a moment of unity and renewed commitment to the ideals of the Tinubu administration.

She noted that the movement remained committed to combining political participation with humanitarian interventions capable of positively impacting communities at the grassroots.

“Our belief is that political engagement should go hand in hand with service to humanity. This outreach has given many elderly people the opportunity to know their health status and receive treatment free of charge,” Adesina stated.

Some beneficiaries of the programme, including Mrs. R.A. Matanmi and Mrs. Olusoji Taiwo, expressed appreciation to the organisers, saying the initiative came at a critical time when access to affordable healthcare had become increasingly difficult for many elderly citizens.

They called for the sustenance of similar interventions to ease the healthcare burden on vulnerable Nigerians.
