Former Senate Leader, Sen. Ali Ndume, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress, APC, consensus candidate for Borno South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ndume was affirmed unopposed during the party’s primary held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, after his main rival, Abdullahi Askira, withdrew from the race last month.
Askira said his decision followed extensive consultations and appeals from party stakeholders within the district.
This was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, by his Media Office on Monday.
It If elected, Ndume will be returning to the National Assembly for a fifth term.
Speaking after his affirmation, Ndume expressed gratitude to APC stakeholders, delegates and party faithful in Borno South for their confidence in him.
“I want to thank our elders in Borno South Senatorial District for their unwavering support for me. I want to reassure them that I will continue to promote their interest at all times,” he said.
He also commended Askira for stepping down in deference to party elders, describing his loyalty as exemplary.
Ndume urged party stakeholders to remain united as the country prepares for the general elections.
