Mehtic Technology wins 2026 RegTech Africa Startup World Cup

to compete for $1m investment prize

ABUJA – THE Mehtic Technology, developers of the innovative BankPlus Core Banking Infrastructure, has emerged winner of the 2026 RegTech Africa Startup World Cup Abuja Regional Challenge.

The firm emerging winner was as part of the just concluded RegTech Africa Conference and Expo, RACE 2026, held at State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, in Abuja.

Meanwhile, according to the Media Relations Lead and Customer Operations Specialist
Mehtic Technology, Franklin Ohiaeri Tochukwu, the three-day event, which ran from May 20 to May 22, 2026, had in attendance regulators, investors, technology innovators, financial institutions, policymakers, and startup founders across Africa.

They focused on the future of financial innovation, regulatory technology, and digital transformation on the continent.

Tochukwu also disclosed that a major highlight of the conference was the Startup World Cup Pitch Day held on May 21, where selected startups showcased groundbreaking solutions capable of addressing Africa’s financial and regulatory challenges.

The Abuja Regional Challenge was organized through a partnership between RegTech Africa and the global Startup World Cup, one of the world’s largest startup pitch competitions.

The regional winner will now proceed to the global finals in Silicon Valley, United States, where startups from different parts of the world will compete for a $1 million investment prize and strategic global partnerships.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Mehtic Technology, Mr. Ahmed Sani, in his remarks described the victory as a major milestone not only for the company but also for Africa’s growing technology ecosystem.

According to him, the recognition reflects the increasing global relevance of African-built financial technology solutions and demonstrates the continent’s capacity to develop world-class digital infrastructure capable of transforming banking and financial services.

He noted that Mehtic Technology’s journey has been driven by resilience, innovation, and a commitment to solving critical financial infrastructure challenges facing emerging markets.

However, he said despite the difficulties often faced by deep-tech startups, including limited access to funding, regulatory complexities, and market entry barriers, the company remained focused on building secure, scalable, and inclusive banking infrastructure solutions.

He added that the company’s mission is to empower financial institutions with advanced core banking technology that enhances efficiency, strengthens security, and promotes financial inclusion, while its long-term vision is to become a leading financial technology infrastructure provider in Africa and globally.

He also expressed appreciation to the organizers, judges, partners, and supporters of the competition for creating a platform that connects African startups with global investment opportunities and international innovation ecosystems.

Following the victory, Mehtic Technology said it would focus on expanding the BankPlus ecosystem, deepening partnerships with financial institutions, and preparing for the Startup World Cup Global Finals in Silicon Valley.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to building technology infrastructure that will support the continued evolution of digital banking across Africa and beyond.
