Kwara state gubernatorial primary was ongoing peacefully across the 193 wards of the 16 local governments on Thursday, when it was suddenly aborted and postponed till Friday.
State Chairman of the party Prince Sunday Fagbemi who confirmed the development in an interview with Vanguard Correspondent also said that the team for the primary has been changed and are already in ilorin.
”The excercise has been postponed till tomorrow Friday.The team of those who will conduct the exercise has arrived ilorin and will address the aspirants later in the day.” Prince Sunday Fagbemi State Chairman said.
On why the ongoing excercise was cancelled midway,he said,”I was not given any reason,they changed the primary election team,the new one has just come.”
On whether it means that the one of today is null and void, Fagbemi said,”it’s not a question of being annulled,it has been postponed.Some of the people were still on their way when we got the directive about the postponement from our national headquarters.
“The team will address the aspirants today and by then we will know what actually happened.”
Meanwhile it was a carnival like across the wards in the local governments Vanguard visited in ilorin,as supporters of each aspirants peacefully chanted various songs, sing praising their choice.
Earlier in the day, Vanguard reliably gathered that Eight governorship aspirants have thrown their weight behind Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki ahead of the scheduled APC primary election.
Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, Wednesday evening, reportedly held strategic engagements with fellow aspirants and key stakeholders across the state, during which they unanimously resolved to support his candidature in the interest of party unity and continuity of the progressive vision championed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The aspirants, after extensive consultations, reportedly said their decision was informed by the need to consolidate the gains of the current administration and rally behind a candidate widely seen as aligned with the developmental aspirations of the people and the leadership direction of the party.
Those who pledged their support for Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki include Dr. Salako Muyideen Oluwatoyin, Captain Ahmad Mahmoud, Professor Wale Sulaiman, Dr. Mohammed Omar Bio, Dr. Toyin Alabi, Hajia Aisha Ahman Patigi, Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, and the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Salihu Danladi.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to party cohesion, issue-based engagement, and a peaceful primary process capable of further strengthening the APC in Kwara State.
Further indications suggest that more aspirants may step down ahead of the primary election.
